Two Companies Joined by Traditions of Excellence
Founded in 1949 as a simple patrol company along the St. Louis riverfront, Whelan Security has emerged as the largest regional security provider in the Midwestern Unites States. That same year, Security Forces (SFI) was opened in Charlotte to provide security patrol services to a single local account. Today, SFI is recognized as one of the largest regional security companies in the United States focused primarily in the Southeast. Over a half century later, the two companies have joined forces to offer the Mid-Atlantic (Washington D.C., Maryland, Delaware, and Northern Virginia) a new choice for security – one that combines the depth of a large national firm with the personal touch of small regional organizations.
The relationship between the two companies began in 1997 as Whelan and SFI were two of the original founding members of TransNational Security, a partnership of leading regional security companies. Through their respective leadership roles, the owners of these two firms, Larry O’Brien, Jr. and Greg Twardowski, developed a close business relationship and personal friendship. Based on this rapport, the decision was made to create Whelan SFI for the diverse and demanding market of the nation’s capital.
Combined, Whelan SFI ranks within the top 1% of contract security companies operating in the United States, employing in excess of 5,000 full-time employees at more than 800 customer accounts.
Whelan SFI is committed to the belief that we offer the Mid-Atlantic region a strong new security provider.
